Guide
Connect Cal.com to Directee
One ten-minute setup, once. After it, every booking your directees make flows into Directee as an appointment — matched to the right person, kept in sync through reschedules and cancellations, and ready to invoice when the session ends.
You’ll need your Directee account and a free account at cal.com— the scheduling page your directees will book through.
Create your event types in Cal.com
An event type is a kind of meeting people can book. Make one for each session you offer — most directors want something like:
- Spiritual Direction Session — 50 minutes
- Initial Consultation — 30 minutes
- Group Direction — 60 minutes
In Cal.com: Event Types → New, give it a title and a length, save. You can add or change these any time — Directee picks up new event types automatically.
Generate a Cal.com API key
This is the credential that links the two accounts. In Cal.com, click your avatar → Settings → Developer → API Keys → Add. Name it “Directee,” choose Never expires, and create it.
Cal.com shows the key exactly once — copy it now. It starts with cal_live_. If you ever lose it, just generate another.
Paste the key into Directee
In Directee, open Settings → Cal.com API Key → New Cal.com API Key, paste the key, and click Create. Directee then does three things on its own: verifies the key, imports your existing bookings as appointments, and registers itself with Cal.com so every future booking arrives the moment it happens.
When you see the green “API Key verified successfully” confirmation, the connection is live.
Understand how bookings find your directees
Directee matches each booking by the booker’s email address. If a directee already has that email, the appointment lands on their record; if nobody matches, Directee creates a new directee from the booking; if the person was archived, they’re reactivated.
One habit keeps everything clean: make sure each directee’s email in Directee is the address they actually book with. If a booking ever lands on a duplicate, open the appointment, switch its Directee field to the right person, and delete the empty duplicate.
Make a test booking
Open your Cal.com booking page in a private window and book a session with a different email address. Within a minute or two it appears under Appointments in Directee — time, attendee, and event type all in place. Cancel the test from Cal.com afterwards and Directee marks it cancelled by itself.
Optional: auto-categorize by event type
Under Settings → Cal.com API Key → Event Mappings, you can tag anyone who books a given event type with a profile category — for example, everyone booking an Initial Consultation becomes a Prospective Directee. Unmapped event types are simply skipped.
If something doesn’t behave
It’s almost always one of two things: the key isn’t showing its green verified check in Directee (copy the whole key, including the cal_live_ prefix, or generate a fresh one), or a directee books with a different email than the one on their profile. Deeper troubleshooting lives in the documentation.
